Aside from the usual trips back and forth to the MENA region, this month, a group of consultants from Lumen had the opportunity to visit the “Salone del Mobile” in Milan (Italy) to learn about the latest trends in furniture and chose the most elegant and sophisticated furniture they could find for a new high-end project in France Lumen is working on. Not far from Milan, in Madrid (Spain), our junior staff member, Carole Hayek, was graduating following a long learning track that ended with a Professional Development Program at Cornell University.

Technology has fast become an indispensable tool in most markets, and the aggressive hotel industry is no different. As travelers become increasingly tech-savvy, the market is adapting to cater to their demands and needs. In fact, 90% of the largest hotel chains are expected to digitalize the reception process by 2017. Some of the more prominent hotel chains, including Marriott-Starwood, Hilton and The Peninsula Group are adopting digital improvements to their hotels, such as digital check in, mobile applications and central touch panel systems.
The regional geopolitical turmoil is a growing concern for the hospitality industry that has otherwise been flourishing for the last decade. The UAE that seems shielded from any undesirable fallout is creating a vacuum and bridging to an exceptional 2020 milestone. The UAE is considered as a top MICE destination in the region, and accounts for about 50% of the sector, hosting about 27% of all GCC events. The food service sector in the GCC is expected to increase by 50% by 2018 to reach a market size worth US$ 29.9 bn by 2020.
